Three New Young Professionals Join Your yPIE Board

yPIE: Young Professionals in International Education in DC is pleased to announce your 2015-16 Board of Directors. Three new and talented young professionals are joining us to serve our more than 500 members in the Washington, DC metro area. The Board is responsible for the strategic direction of yPIE and implementing our mission to connect, inspire, and mentor a generation of new leaders in international education. You can meet your new board at our next happy hour on August 5 at Iron Horse Taproom.

The newly appointed members of the yPIE Board are:

Maria Morck, Employer Relations Coordinator, American University
Responsible global citizenship became a guiding principle for Maria after she met Daniel, a “Lost Boy” of Sudan while studying at The Pennsylvania State University…learn more about Maria.

Franzi Rook, Program Manager, Membership, Global Ties U.S.
Franzi has worked extensively in international student recruitment, marketing, program design, and community outreach. Her work experience spans three continents…learn more about Franzi.

Kelsey Sherbondy, Coordinator, Professional Learning Services, NAFSA: Association of International Educators
Cleaning data for an education study in Mali and teaching English in France are notable parts of Kelsey’s international experience. As a first-generation college student, she is determined to expand educational opportunity for others…learn more about Kelsey.

Current yPIE Board members who will be continuing their service through July 2016 are:

Mary Catherine Chase, Director of Member Relations, Southeastern United States, ISEP: International Student Exchange Programs
Mary Catherine is leading the new Membership Committee with Franzi Rook. Together they will continue to cultivate a membership that represents the diversity of the field of international education, serving elementary through professional-level international education and exchange.

Sarah DeNapoli, Academic Program Coordinator, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies
Sarah is leading the new Events Committee with Maria Morck and Kelsey Sherbondy. This means yPIE will organize more discussion panels, topical workshops, networking events, and happy hours at new venues throughout the upcoming year.

Katie O’Connell, Associate Director, Media Relations and Advocacy, NAFSA: Association of International Educators
Katie will continue to lead yPIE’s communications efforts. You’ll see her fostering LinkedIn discussions about latest trends in international education, as well as helping our members build their communication skills through blogging and other opportunities.

Marc St. Hilaire, Career Advisor, School of International Service, American University Career Center
Marc is serving as Chair of the yPIE Board. He will lead the board through our strategic planning for the year and ensure that our events and activities speak to the full spectrum of the yPIE membership and the industry as a whole.

Brian Wiehr, Senior Director, Study Abroad Programs, Youth For Understanding USA
Brian is leading the new Partnership & Outreach Committee. He will introduce us to like-minded organizations by hosting joint events and engaging yPIE members in local volunteer efforts promoting education, cross-cultural exchange, and citizen diplomacy.
